About Palm Beach County, Florida

One of three counties that make up the South Florida Metropolitan Area, Palm Beach County is a bustling area of nearly 1.3 million people. The population is fairly dense, with new homes and other real estate interests blossoming in existing and new communities despite a recent downturn in the real estate market. Home builders work in concert with community organizations and different levels of government to ensure "sprawl" is contained and that appropriate infrastructure is in place to serve residents and the hoards of tourists who flock to the area each year. Home prices vary, with median resale prices in the $300,000-$400,000 range, and legislative change is in the works to address high property taxes.

With nearly 50 miles of sandy beaches (the Palm Beach County shoreline is part of what is known as Florida's "Gold Coast"), and warm, sunny climate, Palm Beach County is a mecca for those who enjoy the outdoors. Deep-sea and freshwater fishing abound in the county, along with scuba diving and other water sports, golf, polo, auto racing, baseball and basketball. Shopping is varied, from the unique Palm Beach Outlet Center factory direct discount mall to high-end boutiques along Worth Avenue.

Palm Beach Community College, Florida Atlantic University, Palm Beach Atlantic University and Lynn University are among the higher learning facilities in Palm Beach County. Many elementary and high schools are expected to be under capacity in the 2007-08 school year, good news for those accustomed to overcrowded classrooms.
